Another Market
Today was the September episode of the Carlstadt Fresh Air Market, and Reef Botanicals was there, together with a bit of Fabric of my Mind.

Success!
On more than one front.
First, about this past weekend and the Carlstadt Fresh Air Market... I had a blast! Eric came in the morning and helped to set up, then stayed 'til one or so. He ended up buying coffee from a local roaster, pickles from a local pickler, and rolls & pie from a local baker, then heading home to make our dinner.
Meanwhile, our friends Tori & EJ stopped by to visit and ended up helping for a bit too.

The fun thing about this market was that there was no one runaway hit item. People bought shampoo, makeup brush cleaner, facial scrub, mud mask, shaving soap, all different other soaps, candles, and lip balms. It was pretty cool to see so much interest in so many different products.
And the washcloths got a lot of attention, partly because while I was sitting, I started a second trinity washcloth, which I've since completed. One woman actually commented that they're great for babies because they're so soft. I hadn't thought of that, but she's right!
And my other success... I won the Highlights contest at the Handmade Artists Forum, and got to choose a print from Nancy's WildWireArt! I chose "Flow," and it came today!
It looks even better in person, and Eric loves it. Now we just have to get it matted & framed.
So how was your weekend?

What have we been up to?
Well, for starters, we brought our first batch of the new Mashed In over to the NJ Beer Co. to be sold in their tasting room.
Matt decided to give the soap counter space instead of putting it across the way on the shelves with the shirts & hats. This way, it doesn't get lost in the shuffle and people notice it while sitting at the bar.
Soap is little, after all.
So we got to hang out with Matt, and I know at least one or two bars were purchased the first weekend, which is pretty nifty.
And then this past Sunday, we did another craft fair at the Minerals Resort & Spa in Vernon. This time, we worked on featuring our NJ Beer Co. Mashed In beer soap. Eric was funny, calling it our "Superbowl beer soap." It was Superbowl Sunday, after all.
It's hard to see in the photos, but we had the Mashed In up on a higher tier back there. Behind the soap are three Chocolate Decadence pillar candles too.
And Matt even gave us one of his posters to display!
We thought it was funny, because we were, in fact, "serving" NJ Beer Co. beer. Just... y'know... in soap!

Collaboration
Remember this? When I told you we were beer snobs?
That, as you may know, is our Mashed In beer soap. Awesome stuff. My absolute favorite of our soaps, in fact.
Well, the original batch, the batch in that photo, was made with Sam Adams Noble Pils. Beer is great for the skin, and that's an admittedly darned good beer.
Wait. Beer is good for the skin?
Yup. Good for the skin. I've read that in ancient Egypt, long considered the birthplace of beer, women of the upper classes used beer for all sorts of cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, such as to freshen the skin and reduce the risk of skin conditions. And more recent scientific studies have shown that brewer's yeast can help improve the symptoms of acne and maintain a balanced pH in the skin. As a result, cosmetic companies are starting to incorporate brewer's yeast as an active ingredient in their formulas.
So... beer soap.
But we found better beer. Local beer. New Jersey Beer.
The NJ Beer Co. is local to Reef Botanicals, just a few minutes away at 4201 Tonnelle Avenue, North Bergen, NJ. It was founded by president Matt Steinberg.
A very nice guy, and exceedingly talented at what he does, his take on it all is that the "New Jersey Beer Co. is dedicated to crafting quality beer for all; from the occasional beer drinker to the beer aficionado. We believe that good products come from good people, and strive to do our very best for our community and our customers. We believe we can provide happiness through doing what we love, and that a good beer can make the good times great."
It's that sense of community and quest for good times that led the NJ Beer Co. to open up a tasting room, which offers free samples of NJ Beer and a tour of the brewery from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 2-6 p.m. on Saturdays.

But that sense of community is going even farther now. We're teaming up with them to produce our new version of Mashed In, a collaboration between Reef Botanicals and the NJ Beer Co. For our first batch, we've used my favorite of their beers, the Garden State Stout.
Because we're using a stout and the same chocolate malted barley used to make the beer, as well as hops, this batch of soap will necessarily be darker.
And because it's a stout, in addition to the cedarwood essential oil we used in the original Mashed In, we've added a touch of coffee essential oil too.
It's in the molds and ready to go!
The best part? Not only will our NJ Beer Co. Mashed In beer soap be available at the Reef Botanicals website, we'll also have it this Sunday, February 6, at the Minerals Resort Winter Wonderland craft fair!
Know what's even better than that? You'll be able to buy our new Mashed In at the NJ Beer Co. brewery! Go for a tasting, try some of the amazing beers, and buy Reef Botanicals Mashed In... all in the same trip!

The Holiday Gala - and a SALE!
Today we were on the road again, at the Minerals Resort and Spa in Vernon, in what's become our usual booth, but with some new touches...
Like that nifty banner on the front of the table, and the sign up top. This one...
The gift baskets were a hit today. In fact, one woman bought a Men's Gift Basket for her son, and then said, "I really don't want to go to the mall; what else do I need?" She proceeded to purchase a bunch of additional items, and then announced triumphantly that she'd completed her holiday shopping without having to hit a mall, which gave us an idea I'll get to in a minute.
This was also the first time we had our Dead Sea mud masks out in person. People loved them. Loved.
Cool, right? Know what's cooler? That idea I mentioned... a holiday sale!
How great is that if you've still got some last minute holiday shopping to do? We're Ready for the Holidays!
Are you?
Our newest candles are perfect for your holiday celebrations! Home for the Holidays evokes eating candy canes and nibbling on warm cinnamon cookies while sitting in front of the tree. Layered in a great rustic red and green, they look as beautiful as they smell! You'll notice that these are our first candles that are layered like this, and I'm very excited that we pulled them off exactly as we wanted them. Getting the colors right took some serious mixing too, and it couldn't have turned out more perfect!
Sorry, I'm too psyched, I know. I can't help it; I'm really proud of these.
If you want to see them in person before buying them, we'll have them with the rest of our wonderful product line, perfect for gifts or to pamper yourself this winter, at the Minerals Resort and Spa on December 12, 2010.
